Dear list

if one wants to avoid using DAPI (because of autofluorescence), what other

alternatives, with as much similar properties to DAPI as possible, do

exist?

Many general nucleic acid stains exist, especially if you are willing to

move to visible light as the exicitation source. See the Molecular Probes

catalogue for detailed info, but if you must keep UV excitation, try

Hoechst 33258 or 33342, or trimethylpsoralin.

Dear Stagmatis:

You might try one of the Hoescht dyes - for example Hoescht-33258. It is

available from Molecular Probes (tel. +31-71-5233431, email

76225.2203@compuserve.com, http://www.probes.com).

Hope this helps,
