Seminar: Recent Advances in Commercial MALDI-TOF MS for Microbial Identification

January 27, 2015 @ 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

Speaker: Denise Carano, MT(ASCP) Business Development Manager, MALDI Biotyper

Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) is a well characterized technique that has wide ranging utilization covering, biochemistry, organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, medicinal chemistry and microbiology. The rapid adoption of MALDI-TOF technology has revolutionized the way clinical, veterinary, pharma, and food laboratories perform microbial identification due to the ease of data generation and analysis facilitated by commercially available libraries for spectral pattern matching. This technology is a fast, accurate and inexpensive method for bacterial, yeast, mycobacteria and filamentous fungi identification. This seminar will discuss recent advances in MALDI-TOF MS technology with an emphasis on microbial identification.
