Lunch & Learn – DNA STR Profiling: A Powerful Tool in Human Research
November 9, 2017 @ 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Join us on November 9th for a lunch and learn with ICBR Gene Expression and Promega about STR Analysis in, CGRC 451.
Short Tandem Repeats (STRs) are highly conserved, inherited regions of DNA and are one of the most powerful tools in human genetic research. With simple techniques like PCR and fluorescent dyes, STRs can be used to create a genetic profile from human DNA. STR analysis is the gold standard in confirming DNA profiles for forensics but has powerful uses beyond forensics, in human cell line research and identification of mismatch repair deficiency (MMR). Please join us for lunch to learn how STRs can help your human research – from human cell line authentication, which is now a requirement for many journals prior to publication, to identifying microsatellite instability which has become increasingly relevant in immuno-oncology research. Specific topics include sample preparation, STR profiling, cell line authentication and microsatellite instability.
Lunch will be provided.
