Technology Day: qPCR & Flow Cytometry
November 12, 2013 @ 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Life Technologies presents a UF Technology Day: Highlighting qPCR and Flow Cytometry
Speakers: Andria Doty PhD Field Application Scientist and Stefan Schweiger – Technical Sales Specialist – Flow Cytometry and Luminex Platform
10 -11 a.m.: Fundamentals of Real Time PCR
This talk will discuss the concepts of CT, the differences in Real time PCR chemistries, such as Sybr Green and Taqman chemistry, the use of a Minor Groove Binder in assay design, the necessity for using ROX dye and the concept of multicomponenting. We will examine the chemistry and how it allows you to have specificity. Also we will discuss the offerings in Gene Expression, SNP genotyping assays, miRNA assays, and Copy Number Variation assays. The talk will focus on inventoried and how to order custom or made to order assays and how to load sequences into the file builder tool on the website.
12 – 1 p.m.: Troubleshooting Real Time PCR
Problems associated with analysis of PCR products using Real-Time methods can be the result of chemistry or primers (assays) or they can be associated with the hardware or even the software or sample preparation. Sometimes even the plastic components can cause problems. Qpcr instruments and software provide many tools to better determine the exact source of a problem and these slides are intended to review the processes by which these problems can be resolved.
1:30 – 2:30 p.m.: Introduction to Flow Cytometry
3 – 4 p.m.: Introduction to the Attune Acoustic Flow Cytometer and Luminex
